The Power of Affirmations (Mantras)

According to Ronald Alexander from Psychology Today:

“Affirmations can be a powerful tool to help you change your mood, state of mind, and manifest the change you desire in your life. An affirmation can work because it has the ability to program your mind into believing the stated concept.”

This is because our inner mind believes everything. It has no filter and doesn’t know the difference between what’s true and what’s not.

With this in mind, in your morning meditation, close your eyes and as you breathe, let the four mantras below speak straight from your heart. The more you repeat them, the more you believe them, and ultimately, begin to transform into them: a grateful, beautiful, powerful human who is slowly but surely becoming the great person they deserve to be.

1. I am grateful

I am grateful. I am grateful. I am grateful for my health. I am grateful for my family. I am grateful to be here. I am grateful for my talents. I am grateful for my dreams. I am grateful for my life. I am grateful for my friends…

What do you feel grateful for at this moment?

Let the words rise gently with your breath. Don’t force anything. The point of meditation is to focus on your breath so you can become more present, more mindful.

There’s no active “thinking” involved here. I don’t want you to think of reasons why you should be grateful, rather, let your heart speak: what do you feel grateful about?

If nothing comes to mind, that’s okay. Just repeat the words ‘I am grateful’. You’ll notice that the things you’re grateful for will change with the days. And that’s great. You’re evolving. You’re growing. You’re seeing more abundance in your life. And more importantly, you’re feeling that gratitude rather than merely thinking it.

2. I am beautiful

I am beautiful. I am pure. I am kind. I am real. I am lovable. I am loving. I am beautiful. I am a gift.

These thoughts will remind you that you matter. That you are beautiful, kind and loved, even if you forget that you are every now and then. There’s a light of purity within you and it’ll shine bright if you just let it.

Start the morning loving who you are, for it invites more love into your day.

3. I am powerful

I am powerful. I am capable. I am in control.

Remind yourself that you are in control of your thoughts, your reactions, and your beliefs. You have great power within you to achieve whatever it is you wish to accomplish. You have the power to focus your attention on what’s important rather than letting it wander astray. You have the power to make things move in your favour.

You have great power within you. It’s so easy to forget that. It’s so easy to give your power away.

When you remind yourself of that power, you’ll feel more confident, you’ll feel less afraid, and you’ll be ready for new challenges because you’ve reaffirmed that you have the strength to overcome them.

4. I am becoming

I am becoming. I am becoming who I want to be. I am becoming all that I dream. I am becoming what I deserve to be. I am becoming what I want to be.

We do not grow when we “arrive” at where we intended to go. We grow as we expand in the process of getting there.

I stopped telling myself that “I will achieve” this and “I will succeed” at that, because I realized that such thinking removed me from the present, and in doing so, it placed my happiness in a future destination that I must go to and reach.

I was wired to believe that success is somewhere we get to when our goals are achieved. But I’ve come to realize that there is no destination to “arrive” at. There is no “end goal”. Success is in how much you grow in the process of working towards your goals.

So instead, I remind myself that I am becoming.

I am becoming who I am and what I want to achieve, little by little, every day. I am growing, evolving and expanding in the process — and that’s what makes me happy.

This mantra is a reminder that it’s in the journey where we find happiness, not the destination. It’s in the journey that we become who we are, want, or dream to be. It retains your power to enjoy the process of becoming.

The Takeaway

“When you do things from the soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.” — Rumi

Repeat those mantras to yourself every day and let them stem from your soul. Mean every word you say. Believe every word you think for your thoughts will come to shape how you see yourself in this world.

I hope you choose to see yourself as a grateful, beautiful, powerful human who is slowly but surely becoming the great person they deserve to be.
